Virtually every gamer and streamer has heard the name PewDiePie. He's one of the go to names when you think of a YouTube gamer. For years he's been the number 1 channel on YouTube for most viewers, in fact I can't remember a time when he wasn't the most subscribed to the channel. However recently there has been a massive growth in the Indian YouT be channel, T-series. Probably less well known to us, T-series is one of India's biggest music labels.
As it became desperately close in recent weeks to T-series overtaking PewDiePie, he (along with his fans) rallied together to increase the number of subscribers he has and remain on the top spot. One fan went ad far as spending loads of money on billboard, TV and radio advertising telling people to sub to PewDiePie's channel.
However PewDiePie came out a couple of days ago with a video warning people about taking it too far. He said he loves the passion people have about keeping him top, but that people were starting to use racist and abusive language in his chat and on social media. People have started saying things like 'f*ck India' and PewDiePie stated quite clearly that this is not OK. In fact in his video he highlighted that he's now showing support for Indian children's charities who help support families and kids so that they don't have to go into space labour to simply stay alive: https://www.gofundme.com/27bcfh44
It's a big gesture for the Swedish YouTube star and the point behind it is very important. Well played air.
