Former Superbowl Winner Gives Up NFL Career to Pursure Esports

Jay Ajayi is one of the few English footballers to play in the NFL but he's giving it all up to pursue a FIFA career. Early in his football career he represented Boise State at college level, and was a 5th round pick in the 2015 draft, being picked up by the Miami Dolphins. His career at the Dolphins was fairly disjointed and eventually he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. Later that year he was involved in the famous Superbowl victory over New England Patriots.

However since this Superbowl victory he has struggled to cement a place in the starting line up, and was released in early 2019 by the club. Ajayi had the option of competing for a place back on the roster, but has instead decided to turn his focus to Esports.

He has now officially moved Philadelphia Union, an Esports team who have won every single eMLS league in 2019. Speaking on the Union's website Ayayi stated that he wanted to stay in Philadelphia as it "holds a special place in my heart" and that he is "blessed to be able to represent the city through Esports and to be one of the first pro athletes to become a professional gamer. Representing the Philadelphia Union for eMLS combines two of my greatest passions outside of football, soccer and gaming. I'm a competitor, so you're going to see me give my all for the Union at every eMLS event this year".
